2008 AMA Superbike Races – Laguna Seca

We’ll be headed to the 2008 AMA Superbike Championship season finale at Laguna Seca on Sunday. Our hope is to see Ben Spies and Mat Mladin, the all-time series qualifying king, duke it out on two wheels. Matt claimed the final pole position of the current AMA Superbike era on Saturday.
With a series reboot in the offing, this weekend will serve as farewell performance for the Superstock, Supersport, and Formula Xtreme classes, as well as the Superbike category as is now exists.
One Last Dance
This race meeting could also prove to be the final chapter in what will almost certainly go down as the greatest rivalry in AMA Superbike history. Ben Spies and Mat Mladin may be doing battle for the last time on Sunday with the Texan strongly rumored to be launching an assault on the world championship next season.
Two Up for Grabs
While Spies (Superbike), Aaron Yates (Superstock), and Jake Zemke (Formula Xtreme) have already secured their titles this season, two remain to be decided. Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom is a strong favorite to conclude his epic season in championship fashion and claim the final Pro Honda Oils Supersport title. Also, Californian Benny Solis enters the weekend leading the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup and having won both rounds of the doubleheader held earlier this year at Laguna Seca.
