The Anxiety is Building without Relief

November 1, 2008 by admin

The anxiety is building with no clear light at the end of the tunnel.  Despite their love of journalism and excitement for breaking news that matters, many of my friends who are journalists are worried about the future.  Where is this whole “internet” thing going?  How many more reporters are going to get laid of at ____ newspaper before their coverage becomes futile?  Where am I going to be in 2, 5, 10 years from now?  All questions I’ve heard repeatedly.

There’s a very interesting post on a blog I read, DoshDosh.com, about The Future of Content in the Age of Information Overload.

The old hunter-gatherer model of journalism is no longer sufficient. Now that information is so plentiful, we don’t need new information so much as help in processing what’s already available.

It’s worth a read.  I’ve always thought that blogs are going to become the newspaper of the future, and it seems that might be what is really happening.

There’s also reference to another article from the American Journalism Review – The Elite Newspaper of the Future.

Sarah’s Crash and Burn on SNL

Regardless of your political persuasion, this should make you laugh. I can bet that the communications experts on the McCain campaign just cringed when they saw the video of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin answering Katie Couric’s questions… and they also should have known that this would be the makings of a ratings boost for Saturday Night Live. Actress Tina Fey does a dead-on impression.
